A veneer is a thin porcelain shell bonded to the front of your tooth. At So Young Park, DDS, our veneers are custom-made in a laboratory to fit your smile and match your surrounding teeth in color and shape.
Even though veneers are very thin, they are made to be durable enough to withstand normal tooth wear from biting and chewing. They can fix various smile issues, including crooked or misshapen teeth and gaps between teeth. Since they cover the front of your teeth, they are also a great way to hide stained or discolored teeth.
The best way to determine if veneers are right for you is to visit our dentist for a consultation and examination. Dr. Park will be able to evaluate your smile, teeth alignment, bite, and overall oral health to determine if veneers are right for you.
During your consultation, our dentist will explain the process and discuss your treatment options. Once you have decided on a treatment plan, we can begin the preparation phase for your cosmetic procedure.
In most cases, you will need to have cleaning and prep work completed before your veneers are placed. Then, a small portion of the enamel from your natural teeth will be removed to make room for your new restorations. Once your teeth are prepped, we will take impressions of your smile to send to the dental lab where your veneers will be made.
The laboratory technicians will design your customized porcelain veneers with the exact color, size, and shape you want for your smile. Once your new restorations are complete, you will return to our office to have them bonded to your teeth. Porcelain veneers are designed to last for many years when properly cared for with good oral hygiene habits and routine visits to the dentist.
A veneer can last for many years, but they’re not indestructible. They can chip or break if you’re not careful. If you grind your teeth at night, this can also harm your veneers.
If your veneers do break or become damaged, you should schedule an appointment as soon as possible so we can make repairs. In the meantime, you should avoid chewing on any hard foods. You should also avoid biting your nails and using your teeth to open packages because this can also cause damage. Once your veneers have been repaired, you’ll be able to use them normally again.
Veneers are great for fixing esthetic issues such as discoloration or slightly misaligned teeth. To learn more about the benefits of veneers, contact So Young Park, DDS at (408) 264-1917 or visit us at 1660 Westwood Dr Ste G, San Jose, CA 95125.
